(Tampa, FL)<\/strong> \u2013 This week, the \u2018Welcome to Florida\u2019 effort of The LIBRE Institute <\/strong>was profiled in The Weekly Standard<\/em>. The program seeks to provide the instruments for success to new arrivals from Puerto Rico and elsewhere. The LIBRE Institute currently offers free English courses, resume building workshops, and other services to expand access to the resources to build a new, successful life and achieve the American Dream.<\/p>\n

Weekly Standard: \u2018Welcome to Florida\u2019<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIt offers an array services \u2014including English classes, resum\u00e9 building, and mock interviews\u2014all of which are part of an initial $100,000 effort in Orlando, Miami, and Tampa, where high concentrations of Puerto Ricans have arrived. And the program also includes guest speakers explaining the benefits of free market economics and limited government.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0***<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to help people understand what the free market looks like, that freedom drives progress and that we\u2019re free to do whatever God wants us to do,\u201d says LIBRE Institute deputy Florida director David Velazquez, a former pastor who has lived in Orlando for 26 years and whose background helps forge partnerships with local churches.\u00bb<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0***<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not trying to activate them in any way,\u201d he says, \u201cbut people can decide for themselves.\u201d For instance, LIBRE might bring in a speaker from Venezuela to explain what government coercion looks like down there. And then \u201cThey see similarities,\u00bb Velazquez says. \u201cAnd a light bulb goes on. It\u2019s up to them what they do with that.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
