\"freethewage_1022x535\"<\/a>En los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os, el salario m\u00ednimo ha sido un tema controvertido, polarizador y muy sensible en la pol\u00edtica estadounidense. Tambi\u00e9n ha atra\u00eddo una atenci\u00f3n significativa en la investigaci\u00f3n econ\u00f3mica, ya que tanto defensores como detractores intentan medir sus efectos sobre el empleo, los precios y la pobreza. El efecto del salario m\u00ednimo sobre el empleo es especialmente relevante, y destaca en las encuestas de opini\u00f3n p\u00fablica sobre el tema. La mayor\u00eda de los estadounidenses \u2014el 67 %\u2014 apoya subir el salario m\u00ednimo como principio general, pero ese apoyo disminuye en determinados contextos. Cuando se pregunta a los estadounidenses si seguir\u00edan apoyando el salario m\u00ednimo incluso si las empresas se vieran obligadas a recortar puestos de trabajo, ese 67 % de apoyo se invierte y pasa a un 58 % de oposici\u00f3n. El apoyo al salario m\u00ednimo entre los hispanos es a\u00fan m\u00e1s sensible a las preocupaciones sobre el empleo que el de la poblaci\u00f3n general. De hecho, aunque el 74 % de los hispanos apoya el salario m\u00ednimo en abstracto, el 58 % se opone si esto lleva a las empresas a recortar empleos. Dado que las actitudes de los hispanos hacia el salario m\u00ednimo son tan sensibles a las preocupaciones sobre sus efectos en el empleo, el tema merece una atenci\u00f3n seria en la investigaci\u00f3n econ\u00f3mica. <\/p>\n

Este informe se basa en investigaciones existentes para examinar los efectos del salario m\u00ednimo en el empleo hispano. Para ello, se apoya en una teor\u00eda de los salarios como precios, expuesta por F. A. Harper, con el fin de plantear una serie de predicciones sobre la relaci\u00f3n entre el salario m\u00ednimo y el empleo. Despu\u00e9s, utilizando datos de la Oficina de Estad\u00edsticas Laborales, este informe analiza las tendencias en la ratio empleo\/poblaci\u00f3n de ciertos tipos de trabajadores hispanos \u2014como los trabajadores m\u00e1s j\u00f3venes o con menos cualificaci\u00f3n\u2014 en relaci\u00f3n con los cambios del salario m\u00ednimo entre 1974 y 2014, bas\u00e1ndose en metodolog\u00edas empleadas en dos an\u00e1lisis anteriores. A partir de este an\u00e1lisis, concluimos que las preocupaciones de los hispanos sobre los resultados de subir el salario m\u00ednimo est\u00e1n bien fundamentadas. <\/p>\n
