Noviembre es el mes de la gratitud. No solo Estados Unidos celebra el D\u00eda de Acci\u00f3n de Gracias en noviembre, sino que \u2014lo m\u00e1s importante\u2014 damos las gracias por el servicio de los valientes hombres y mujeres de nuestras Fuerzas Armadas en el D\u00eda de los Veteranos. <\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Ya sea que las personas pasen cuatro a\u00f1os o d\u00e9cadas sirviendo, muchos se retiran del ej\u00e9rcito lo suficientemente j\u00f3venes como para comenzar un nuevo cap\u00edtulo en sus vidas. Algunos veteranos, conocidos como \u201c<\/span><\/span>vetrepreneurs<\/span><\/span>\u201d, inician negocios. Noviembre es tambi\u00e9n el Mes Nacional del Emprendimiento, por lo que es el momento perfecto para celebrar a los <\/span><\/span>vetrepreneurs<\/span><\/span>, tambi\u00e9n. <\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Recientemente hablamos con Diego Echeverri, de Concerned Veterans for America Foundation, quien comparti\u00f3 con nosotros su experiencia personal como <\/span><\/span>vetrepreneur<\/span><\/span>. Entre su servicio en el ej\u00e9rcito y su trabajo ayudando a veteranos con CVA Foundation, lanz\u00f3 una exitosa empresa de accesorios masculinos llamada Bull & Moose. <\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Despu\u00e9s de servir como especialista legal en el Ej\u00e9rcito y obtener tu MBA de la Universidad de Miami, \u00bfqu\u00e9 te inspir\u00f3 a iniciar un negocio? <\/span><\/b><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Cuando mi esposa y yo nos mud\u00e1bamos a D.C., yo buscaba trabajo mientras mi esposa esperaba a nuestro primer hijo. Pens\u00e9 que trabajar desde casa ser\u00eda ideal para nuestra situaci\u00f3n. <\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Nunca pens\u00e9 que me dedicar\u00eda a la moda masculina, pero mis amigos siempre me ped\u00edan consejos sobre qu\u00e9 vestir y dem\u00e1s, as\u00ed que parec\u00eda algo natural. <\/span><\/span>Habiendo estado uniformado durante tantos a\u00f1os, sab\u00eda c\u00f3mo planchar un uniforme y enorgullecerme de c\u00f3mo vest\u00eda.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

El negocio comenz\u00f3 como un proyecto temporal mientras buscaba trabajo. Pero en cuesti\u00f3n de meses se volvi\u00f3 muy exitoso, hasta el punto de que aparecimos en GQ<\/i>, Fox News<\/i>, Washingtonian<\/i> y otros medios de comunicaci\u00f3n. Tambi\u00e9n nos asociamos con una empresa brit\u00e1nica. Cuatro a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s, termin\u00e9 cerrando Bull & Moose, ya que mi pasi\u00f3n por ayudar a los veteranos tom\u00f3 prioridad. Una startup requiere mucho tiempo y era<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span>imposible hacer dos cosas a la <\/span><\/span>vez en ese caso. <\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00bfTe result\u00f3 dif\u00edcil la transici\u00f3n a la vida civil, o conoces a alguien a quien s\u00ed le haya resultado? <\/span><\/b><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

No. Todos los veteranos que conozco y con los que paso tiempo (muchos de ellos empresarios) lo han hecho muy bien. Siento que es una narrativa de \u201cveterano roto\u201d que se nos impone, que todos los veteranos tienen dificultades para adaptarse a la vida civil. Si miras las cifras, nadie destaca que tenemos la tasa de desempleo m\u00e1s baja que cualquier otro grupo, incluso durante la \u00faltima recesi\u00f3n, y tenemos la tasa m\u00e1s alta de emprendimiento. <\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

En todo caso, las familias de los militares necesitan toda la ayuda que puedan recibir porque, como veteranos, tenemos muchos beneficios disponibles, incluso en lo que respecta a cosas como el proceso de contrataci\u00f3n, los trabajos estatales o gubernamentales y la contrataci\u00f3n externa. <\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00bfCu\u00e1les son las caracter\u00edsticas de los veteranos que los hacen excelentes en el lugar de trabajo y como empresarios?<\/span><\/b><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Versatilidad. Siempre est\u00e1n pensando sobre la marcha, siempre impulsados con un impulso continuo, lo que prepara muy bien a las personas. Como empresario, tienes que pensar continuamente sobre la marcha con un impulso hacia adelante y buscar nuevas formas de trabajar con el cambio. <\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Hay muchas mesetas en la gesti\u00f3n de un negocio, por lo que la autodisciplina es clave. Tambi\u00e9n es una cualidad que se nos inculca a\u00fan m\u00e1s mientras servimos en las fuerzas armadas. Adem\u00e1s, mientras estamos en el ej\u00e9rcito, recibimos capacitaci\u00f3n cruzada en muchas cosas que quiz\u00e1s ni siquiera est\u00e9n en nuestra descripci\u00f3n de trabajo. Por ejemplo, como especialista legal, nunca pens\u00e9 que me capacitar\u00edan para cambiar el l\u00edquido de la transmisi\u00f3n de un Humvee. Los empresarios siempre tienen que desempe\u00f1ar m\u00faltiples funciones, y nunca es \u201cno es mi trabajo\u201d. <\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Evita empezar con deudas y pedir pr\u00e9stamos excesivos. Ten un plan de negocio s\u00f3lido y con\u00e9ctate con otros veteranos o mentores con experiencia en la industria para obtener consejos y apoyo. <\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Nuestros desaf\u00edos como<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span>empresarios<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span>son como los de cualquier otro civil con una startup. Al final, realmente creo que tenemos m\u00e1s ventajas como veteranos y animo<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span>a quienes quieran asociarse y trabajar con veteranos, a que lo hagan.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
