Por muy alegre que sea la temporada, hay algunos aspectos que, lamentablemente, empa\u00f1an el \u00e1nimo. Un ejemplo de ello: Bloomberg proclam\u00f3 recientemente: \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2015-11-19\/thanksgiving-meal-costs-most-ever-after-turkeys-hit-by-bird-flu\"><em>La cena de Acci\u00f3n de Gracias es la m\u00e1s cara de la historia debido al impacto de la gripe aviar en los pavos<\/em><\/a>\u201d. Al parecer, nuestras queridas tradiciones estadounidenses est\u00e1n amenazadas por las plagas y el aumento del coste de la vida.   <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/humanprogress.org\/blog\/thanksgiving-dinner-has-become-cheaper-over-time\">Pero, como se\u00f1ala Marian Tupy<\/a> del Instituto Cato, eso es un \u201cabsoluto y total sinsentido\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>El art\u00edculo de Bloomberg citaba una cifra de la <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fb.org\/newsroom\/news_article\/369\/\">American Farm Bureau Federation<\/a>, que ha registrado diligentemente los precios de una cesta de 12 productos esenciales, como el pavo, los ar\u00e1ndanos rojos y la mezcla para tarta de calabaza, desde 1986. Seg\u00fan la Farm Bureau, el precio de una cena festiva para 10 personas este a\u00f1o es de 50,11 $, 70 centavos m\u00e1s que en 2014. El cambio es a\u00fan m\u00e1s dr\u00e1stico a largo plazo: una cena festiva en 1986 costaba solo 28,74 $.  <\/p>\n<p>Estas cifras pueden parecer estar subiendo, pero en realidad reflejan principalmente el cambio del valor nominal sobre el papel. Como resultado de la inflaci\u00f3n, el valor del d\u00f3lar ha disminuido durante el mismo periodo. Cuando ajustamos a d\u00f3lares de 2014 por la inflaci\u00f3n, descubrimos que los precios han bajado con el tiempo, desde un m\u00e1ximo de 62,08 $ en 1986 a 49,41 $ en 2014.  <\/p>\n<p>Sin embargo, ajustar por la inflaci\u00f3n es solo una parte de la tarea de descubrir el coste real de los bienes y servicios. La productividad de los trabajadores cambia con el tiempo, y un art\u00edculo o servicio que costaba 5 horas de trabajo un a\u00f1o podr\u00eda costar solo 4 al siguiente. Esta es una buena noticia y representa una disminuci\u00f3n significativa en la cantidad de tiempo que se tiene que pasar en la oficina o en el puesto de trabajo \u2014y m\u00e1s tiempo con amigos y familiares durante las vacaciones\u2014 para los trabajadores hispanos en todo Estados Unidos. Aunque el trabajador medio del total de la poblaci\u00f3n solo tiene que trabajar 3 horas y 45 minutos para la misma comida, esa brecha se ha ido reduciendo desde 2011, y eso es una se\u00f1al positiva. La disparidad se debe a que los ingresos medios por hora son m\u00e1s bajos para los hispanos que para la media nacional, lo que resalta el fuerte impacto que la direcci\u00f3n de la econom\u00eda puede tener en la calidad de vida.   <\/p>\n<p>El tiempo es dinero, como dice el refr\u00e1n, y para nadie en Estados Unidos es m\u00e1s cierta esa afirmaci\u00f3n que para los trabajadores que cobran por horas. Los hispanos en Estados Unidos siguen teniendo que trabajar m\u00e1s horas para permitirse los mismos bienes que el resto del pa\u00eds, pero la brecha se ha ido reduciendo recientemente. En general, aunque la tendencia del coste de la vida ha tenido sus altibajos, las condiciones han mejorado hist\u00f3ricamente para los estadounidenses con el paso del tiempo, lo que es un testimonio del poder de la innovaci\u00f3n en una econom\u00eda de libre mercado. El pasado D\u00eda de Acci\u00f3n de Gracias, los hispanos en Estados Unidos dedicaron solo cuatro quintas partes del tiempo de trabajo que dedicaban hace 28 a\u00f1os para poner la cena en la mesa para sus amigos y familiares.
