UU."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Si crees que la educaci\u00f3n superior por s\u00ed sola podr\u00eda ser la clave para lograr seguridad econ\u00f3mica frente a las recesiones, pi\u00e9nsalo de nuevo. A pesar del n\u00famero r\u00e9cord de hispanos que asisten a la universidad, la educaci\u00f3n superior no protegi\u00f3 su patrimonio de la turbulencia financiera de la \u00faltima recesi\u00f3n. Esta es la principal conclusi\u00f3n de un <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stlouisfed.org\/~\/media\/Publications\/In%20the%20Balance\/Images\/Issue_12\/ITB_August_2015.pdf\">informe reciente<\/a> de la Reserva Federal de St. Louis, que analiz\u00f3 la riqueza de distintos grupos raciales y c\u00f3mo evolucion\u00f3 durante la Gran Recesi\u00f3n, una recesi\u00f3n que se ha <a href=\"https:\/\/thelibreinstitute.org\/es\/blog\/2026\/04\/el-trabajador-hispano-durante-la-gran-recesion-y-la-recuperacion\/\">demostrado<\/a> que afect\u00f3 de forma desproporcionada a los hispanos.  <\/p>\n<p>Como se se\u00f1ala en el informe, las familias con estudios universitarios suelen obtener ingresos significativamente m\u00e1s altos y acumular m\u00e1s riqueza que las familias encabezadas por alguien que no tiene un t\u00edtulo universitario de cuatro a\u00f1os. De ello se desprende que la educaci\u00f3n superior puede actuar como un escudo frente a las recesiones y los shocks financieros. Sin embargo, cuando la Reserva Federal examin\u00f3 dos d\u00e9cadas de datos detallados sobre riqueza, descubri\u00f3 que la educaci\u00f3n no proteg\u00eda por igual a todos los grupos raciales y \u00e9tnicos. Las familias blancas no hispanas y asi\u00e1ticas con t\u00edtulos de cuatro a\u00f1os pudieron resistir los shocks financieros de la \u00faltima recesi\u00f3n y acumular riqueza mucho mejor que sus hom\u00f3logas con menos educaci\u00f3n. Pero eso no fue as\u00ed para los hispanos. Durante el reciente periodo de turbulencia econ\u00f3mica (2007-2013) e incluso durante las dos d\u00e9cadas anteriores (1993-2013), las familias hispanas encabezadas por alguien con un t\u00edtulo universitario de cuatro a\u00f1os obtuvieron resultados significativamente peores en t\u00e9rminos de riqueza que las familias hispanas sin t\u00edtulo universitario (Figura 1).     <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>(Figura 1)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thelibreinstitute.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Graph-Edu-blog.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1588 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thelibreinstitute.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Graph-Edu-blog.jpg\" alt=\"Gr\u00e1fico del blog Edu\" width=\"620\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thelibreinstitute.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Graph-Edu-blog.jpg 620w, https:\/\/thelibreinstitute.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Graph-Edu-blog-300x194.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thelibreinstitute.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Graph-Edu-blog-100x65.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Como una de las causas probables, el informe de la Reserva Federal cita la ratio deuda-ingresos entre los hispanos con estudios universitarios (Figura 2). En v\u00edsperas de la Gran Recesi\u00f3n, la ratio DTI de los hispanos con estudios universitarios era mucho m\u00e1s alta que la de cualquier otro grupo, con la excepci\u00f3n de la de los afroamericanos. El informe explica que esto se debi\u00f3 en gran parte a la ca\u00edda del valor de las viviendas en propiedad ocupadas por sus due\u00f1os entre los hispanos con estudios universitarios durante la crisis inmobiliaria.  <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>(Figura 2)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/thelibreinstitute.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Graph-2-edu-blog.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1589\" src=\"http:\/\/thelibreinstitute.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Graph-2-edu-blog.jpg\" alt=\"Gr\u00e1fico 2 del blog Edu\" width=\"620\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thelibreinstitute.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Graph-2-edu-blog.jpg 620w, https:\/\/thelibreinstitute.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Graph-2-edu-blog-300x194.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thelibreinstitute.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Graph-2-edu-blog-100x65.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>El panorama de la vivienda ha cambiado desde entonces, y la ratio DTI de los hispanos podr\u00eda estar mejorando como resultado del aumento de los precios de la vivienda. Sin embargo, del informe se desprende una lecci\u00f3n importante. El endeudamiento excesivo y la deuda que conlleva pueden tener un impacto negativo duradero en la vida de los hispanos, uno que no se puede revertir \u00fanicamente por tener un t\u00edtulo universitario. Esto es importante, especialmente en un momento en que los hispanos se est\u00e1n endeudando mucho para obtener una educaci\u00f3n universitaria. Seg\u00fan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonfed.org\/commdev\/c&amp;b\/2015\/winter\/ratcliffe-mckernan-who-is-most-worried-about-student-loan-debt.htm\">investigaciones<\/a> de investigadores s\u00e9nior del Urban Institute, los hispanos y los afroamericanos tienen aproximadamente el doble de probabilidades de tener deuda por pr\u00e9stamos estudiantiles que las personas blancas no hispanas. De hecho, la investigaci\u00f3n se\u00f1ala que, mientras el 16 % de los blancos tiene deuda por pr\u00e9stamos estudiantiles, el 34 % de los afroamericanos y el 28 % de los hispanos s\u00ed la tiene.     <\/p>\n<p>En este sentido, aunque la educaci\u00f3n superior sigue siendo una inversi\u00f3n s\u00f3lida para el bienestar financiero a largo plazo de los hispanos en EE. UU., es importante reconocer que un t\u00edtulo universitario no es sin\u00f3nimo de seguridad econ\u00f3mica.
